Riga, October 2025 — The Horizon Europe project TED4LAT – Twinning in Environmental Data and Dynamical Systems Modelling for Latvia has successfully concluded, marking a significant milestone in advancing Latvia’s excellence in data science, system dynamics, and artificial intelligence.

Implemented from October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2025, the project was coordinated by Riga Technical University (RTU) in partnership with Politecnico di Torino (POLITO, Italy) and INRAE – the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (France), Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Liepaja University (now RTU Liepaja Academy) and Baltic Open Solution Centre (BOSC). TED4LAT aimed to strengthen Latvia’s research and innovation potential through international cooperation, knowledge transfer, and capacity building.

Throughout its implementation, TED4LAT organised three international doctoral schools held in Italy, France, and Latvia, bringing together early-stage researchers to develop advanced competencies in data analytics, complex systems modelling, and environmental applications. The project also hosted three international workshops in Riga, Paris, and Turin, which served as key platforms for scientific exchange and collaboration.

Several staff exchanges enabled Latvian early-stage researchers to visit POLITO and INRAE, where they collaborated on joint research and project proposal development. In addition, more than 90 online consultations were held between Latvian researchers and their advisers from the partner institutions, ensuring continuous mentoring and support throughout the project.

TED4LAT’s activities resulted in 19 scientific publications, 40 international conference presentations (including those held during the doctoral schools), and 11 project proposals under Horizon Europe, Digital Europe, LIFE, and national programmes. The project also established a Shared Laboratory for data science at RTU, which will remain operational after the project’s completion to support further research and innovation initiatives.

The TED4LAT consortium has established a strong and lasting collaboration network among Latvian partners, POLITO, and INRAE, which will continue beyond the project’s end through ongoing research cooperation and joint academic initiatives, ensuring that the knowledge and capacity built during the project will have a long-term impact on Latvia’s research ecosystem.

By fostering international collaboration and promoting open science practices, TED4LAT has enhanced Latvia’s participation in Horizon Europe, expanded institutional research capacity, and laid the foundation for sustainable, data-driven innovation that supports environmental and socio-economic resilience.

The project was funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021-ACCESS-03) under Grant Agreement No. 101079206, with a total budget of EUR 1,194,500.
